Nature connected organisations handbook cover

The Human Nature Partnership features in groundbreaking new book for ‘nature connected organisations’ from the University of Derby

    Groundbreaking book

This week sees the publication of ‘Nature connected organisation handbook‘ by Carly Butler and Miles Richardson. It isn’t the first book that aims to help organisations see themselves as part of natural systems. But it is the first to our knowledge that ‘practical guidance for organisations to bring nature connection into their workplace and culture’.

It follows hot on the heels of another groundbreaking book in the world of nature connection: ‘Reconnection‘ by Miles Richardson, which makes a compelling scientific and human case for healing our broken relationship with nature.

    Proud to be listed

We are proud to be listed as a resource alongside The Eden Project, Earthwatch, and the University of Derby’s Nature Connectedness Research Group.

Proud, because it’s a short list and that’s great company to keep! Proud also, because we have been living and breathing the work of Miles and his colleagues for several years and it forms a firm foundation for our work.

One of the sections of the book we like most is the ‘tree framework’.

“a ‘tree framework’ that organisations can use to audit their current practices and policies and to identify, design, and develop actions they can take towards becoming nature connected. The framework invites reflection and action across all levels of an organisational tree: the staff (the crown), the structures (the trunk), the culture (roots) and the community (soil).”

    Building Nature Connected Organisations

Here at The Human Nature Partnership we have been applying a similar model, which we call our ‘Nature Connected Organisation Maturity and Opportunity Assessment’.

A bit less catchy that ‘tree framework’, perhaps, but a very helpful way of enabling our clients to explore how they can build a compelling vision, grow engaged people, develop enjoyable spaces, enhance wildlife and embrace their communities. Clients create an assessment of challenges and opportunities against these theme, with practical and science-based support in making improvements.

Giving organisations a tangible sense of what they can do to address the biodiversity crisis, employee wellbeing, customer satisfaction and productivity…and experience the joy of feeling more connected to the natural world.

Why not get in touch and see how we might help you grow a nature connected organisation.
